Aidem Digital helps My Time promote the My Talk App

Aidem Digital was requested to produce a video to help My Time CIC promote its vision for a MyTalk mobile phone application to be produced for young people who suffer from issues such as bullying, sexting and other social and mental health problems.

The aim of the video was to create awareness of how the My Talk App will help promote emotional well-being for young people. It features young people and My Talk project team members on how the research was established for the much needed My Talk App.

The research was carried out by Salma Aktar from My Time. Salma was brought up in Sandwell in the West Midlands and has always been interested in psychology as a child and went onto study at University. She led on a research project looking at the emotional needs of young people in the district of Sandwell.

Salma led a team of young people through workshops and interviewed 121 young people. The key issues discovered during the research were difficulties with teachers, relationships, body image, bullying, worry about the future, lack of jobs and problems with drugs.

According to research by Pepler & Craig in 2007, bullying at school is a widespread problem. Estimates suggest that approximately 5-10% of children repeatedly attack their peers and approximately 10-15% of children persistently serve as the target of peer harassment. It is clear that such aggressive behaviours negatively impact the lives of young people involved.

It was found by the My Time research that only 43% of those interviewed said they accessed or knew of existing Young People support services in Sandwell. However, 95% of young people interviewed used Smartphone or Android Apps and/or computers. This led to the idea for having the My Talk App which will be a very helpful way of reaching to young people to provide support via their phones.

You can watch the video below:

Indi Deol of Aidem Digital said: “The importance of the My Talk App as devised by My Time CIC was a good enough reason for Aidem Digital to be involved in this innovative project. We created the video to effectively show how the issues faced by young people will be helped by the project.”

Michael Lilley CEO of My Time CIC simply described the video as “Brilliant” and felt this promotion showed how two social enterprises could very effectively worked together using each others core strengths.

My Time CIC shall be working with Aidem Digital to develop the digital content for the My Talk App.
